Jim is the senior partner at McLellan Richards & Bégin , having been with the firm since 1969. Jim received his Bachelor of Commerce degree in 1966 from Dalhousie University and graduated from Dalhousie University Law School in 1969. Jim received his Q.C. designation in 1985.

Jim's practise concentrates on real estate, wills, estates and probate, and corporate-commercial law. Jim is counsel for several large firms in the Truro area. Jim is also currently serving his third, five year appointment as a Small Claims Court Adjudicator. He presides over cases in Truro, New Glasgow, and Amherst.
